I'm working on my 64 Pick-up and well, I'm a bit stumped

This is what I have so far:

the P/O swaped the column from a 74-80? C-10? It has a ignition key on the column and the flat 12 pr 14 wire connector on the right side of the column, if you are looking at it from the drivers seat.

My truck starts and runs with no issues YAY

Now... My light issus....
Pull head light switch one time and i had like 7-8 volts on the 'dash light' pin
Pull the switch to head lights and had the same thing.
Jumped the dash lights to the running light just to see what would happen, dash lights come on
Pull switch to head lights, dash lights go out... I'm at a bit of a loss... I checked the voltage on the parking light pin and it drops from 12.3 to 0 when the head lights are turned on...

Just wondering if anyone has any idea....

I thought that may be it, I bought a new one and had the same thing, so then I tried to take my old one apart and see how the contacts move internally and what-not. I made the mistake of doing that over a gravel driveway and yeah... I have no idea where the internals to that switch are, I'm going to try and pick up another switch and try it I guess...

Hmmmmmm, does it have one of those floor mounted high/low buttons?

They are notorious for causing weird issues and reasonably priced.

O... something I didn't think to check, great idea... I'll look into that!

Yeah I had a problem once and never would have
guessed it was even a possibility and that fix'd it.

Make sure to also check ALL terminals and plugs. Start at the lights themselves and work your way back to the switch. I had an issue of blowing fuses with low beams, but hi beams worked. I changed the switch and the dimmer swith in the floor and it still did it. Turns out, it was a terminal that melted through the headlight plug and made contact with another terminal grounding out the Low beam system and blowing the fuse.

OKAY UPDATE TIME...

I bought another headlight switch and a new dimmer switch and had the same madness... so I have ruled out the switch being the problem, as this makes 4 head light switches and 2 dimmer switches.

I got my head lights working, turned out one had a faulty ground, and Matt you hit the nail on the head on the driver side light, it had a light socket that was turning into dust before my eyes. so I replaced both light sockets re-grounded everything and the head lights work in cluding high and low beams!!!

I am still having the same issue with the dash lights, and no running lights when the head lights are on. I forgot to mention before that I have no light sockets up front and the back tail lights aren't hooked up, so maybe that's why the dash lights go off when the headlights are on? I'm going to hook all of it up tomorrow (Sat) and see what happens....

I'm no expert, but I think on a 67/68 series truck the front running lights
go off when the headlights come on. (Might be the same for 60-66 series)

LUV2XCLR8 may not be an 'expert' but man you know your stuff.. 60-66 no front running lights are illuminated when the headlights are on. The tail-lights remain illuminated the entire time, so I will jump them together. Found a confirmation of this here: http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showt ... id/279822/

I'm trying my best to keep you guys updated I will probably start another string just to layout the 'Christ Crusader Chronicles' some of the things I have run into these last few weeks are CRAZY

So if turns out that my fuse block has something wrong with it, I have cleaned the terminals with a wire brush etc, but I have 12V at the fuse side and flip it over and I have any where from 0.7V to 11V so I"m guessing that the block has just given up on me. Anyway I'm going to put a 12 circuit BWD in the place with some newer fuses. I'll try and post pictures when I'm all done.

Anybody know if I wire in a hazard flasher if it needs to have it's own circuit?

UPDATE!

I have head lights, I got my front running lights power spliced to the rear tail lights, to all of those are turning on at the same time. I have one little issue... (tiny.. little bitty one) I don't have a turn signal one. I was wondering if any of you have a 68-86 c-10 and know how the signals are supposed to work off the column? I have a later model column in my '64.... Any ideas/suggestions?

Do you have the turn signal arm in place and does it hold in place when you signal left or right turns. If yes look at your fuse block (located on inside firewall) and find the flasher. Replace with a known good one. (if you don't find one get one and plug it in) It is normally at the top left of fuse block.

I will give it a shot, I"m going to try a different flasher. Right now my turn signal stays with the light on and the flasher just stays on as well.

It was the grounds!

Yep, those grounds can be boogers when trying to diagnose electrical issues.
