Post Project: "Square Vette"
New Thread for the next Chapter in My Build

Well it has now been 10 years now since I first
acquired this 72 Blazer. I started off calling her
"GQ" which was short for "Garage Queen". She
came to me from CA via a Member over on big
board with a stack of receipts and just needed
to be painted, reassembled, & parts installed.

Somewhere along the way I got board with it
and tried to sell it. Driving a 4wd on 35's was
not what I thought it would be and I was torn.
The Blazer just sat in the garage taking space.

During those years I acquired 2 more Blazers,
both of them were 2wd, and I got distracted.

During 08 annual Holiday vacation my Wife
Roxane and I were discussing the fact that
I had too many toys and somethings were
needing to go. I explained about being torn
on finishing up the 4wd, or keeping "Merlot"

Roxane asked if "GQ" was an all original w/
numbers matching ride? I explained that it
was not. She replied with just tear it apart
and build what you really want. I said OK !
(Not exactly the finest moment she relives.)

I came up with the name "Square Vette" to
honor the fact she was going to sit low, be
fast, and handle like a Corvette. Obviously
she doesn't have those aerodynamics's so
I figured being a 72 that it was originally
a Square nose. So that is the name story.

So during 2009 I sold the 72 4wd Chassis,
I sold the 71 Jimmy "Merlot", and through
friends here located a 72 2wd Chassis.

Pictures in my siggy detail the progress as
we worked on her the last 5 years. She has
had her ups and down, lots of changes, and
she's just about nearing the end of my build.

There is not enough hours in the day to thank
all of those on this site who have contributed
their time on this build. You are all Family.

I still lack a paint job, but I consider this to
be around 95% complete since I have parts
stored to finish her up once painted. So this
is a LONG list of what I have accomplished.

Found a gas line that was left unclamped,
I guess with the CTC crunch I missed it. It
is an easy fix, just a difficult spot to get to.

Thought about that, but it's so thin what would
keep it from happening again? It appears that

If it's brass it should hold up. I bet with some research you can find a good used one.

I just read a post on the Big board where a guy replaced the float with a foam float from a Quadrajet. Sounds like it might work!

I better take notes. We are putting the Auto-Meter phantoms that I bought off the big board a long while ago. That way all the gauges will match. Feels good to be making some progress.

OK, you have made 3 posts about this "problem" and I still don't know if you have a flat tire, a connecting rod interfering with your steering linkage, or if the Blazer kicked your cat and stole your birthday. If you give us some info we may be able to steer you in the right direction.

I agree, hard to diagnose with no substantial information.

TG it was nothing, the back side of
my Modular spindle setup looked
as if it was all beat up / damaged.

Apparently the bearing dust
cap edges have warped with
brake heat, I did find one side
ever so slightly on loose side,
so adjusted bearings while I
was already inside there.

For those of you that are
wondering, I'm at 450M
since build, so probably
time to check anyways.

On top of that, right
rear was flat, soooo,
either slow leak, or
I hit something this
morning roasting
them from house
over to the shop.

1/2 Top dropped off today and is being reworked,
glass removed and dropped off at tint shop, she
should look a little bit nicer in a few weeks. All
that left is her paint and the detent geometry

Yeah, can't say I'm not nervous, those
tops are rare, and I just basically left
it with someone that I barely know.

Going to check on the top this Thursday.

Tuesday will be a week since I dropped
it off, but I'm working all day on T & W.

Calling tint guy Monday to see if rear
window is done, dropped it off same
day I took 1/2 top to body repair guy.
