Post The 78 C-10 Stepside
Alrite, I got alittle down time from the Holiday's. It's been real crazy here working for the Waffle House LOL. As some of you all know the Blazer was in two wrecks in a five day spread, :drama: , the money I got from the claim was spent on getting the black 78 step that Ron had. I am not 100% on the history of her but I do know that she has been on the board for some time now and started as wabbits pride. As she sat the night I got her from Ron, 71 C-10 350/350TH with the quad still in place I drove her home from Big Sandy all the way to Jackson, with the Kawasaki left and right front fenders and the hood that Ron had to go with the truck. The ride to Ron's was cold so we talked for a bit and I had a great time during the visit. I had the stepside at the house for about a week and then swapped the rims and tires out to the wagon wheels that I had on the blazer last year.

After that I swapped the hood and fenders, then installed a new heater core. I have been driving her back and forth to work every day since the cold snap came in.... just to cold to be on the mtorcycle. :floored:

I don't have any good pic's of the hood but as yall know they were famous for bending at the front of the hinge.
after

About two weeks ago I has having carb problems with the quad :banghead: I put a rebiuld kit in it with the hope that it would be ok, but nun the less that did not fix the problem. :crying: I picked up a Holley 600 cfm electric choke, installed it and have been doing good since.

I have made some more progress, since the last post I have swapped out the grill for the one in the Blazer. I have also put a new 4 row radiator with the bracket, shroud and fan out of the Blazer, fuel pump, and also got new inner fender wells from Keystone here in Jackson. I will have more pics coming soon.

If you need to know anything about it when I had it, just give me a yell. Here's a quick rundown:

I bought it in 02 or 03 and it had been sitting in some dude's driveway in Antioch. I swapped out the mirrors for sport mirrors, went through 3 350s, replaced the TH-350 trans, replaced the radiator, swapped to electric fans, swapped HEIs, etc. I bought those fenders from JC Whitney (I think). I got the hood off racingjunk.com. The hood was orange, and I repainted it black as a test of the rustoleum rolled on paint job. I never finished, but it was all one color and looked decent. I drove it daily from Murfreesboro to Nashville (30 miles each way) for years.

I think that old step bumper was big enough to be a boat anchor for an aircraft carrier. That thing was huge, and from what I remember it was booger welded on to the frame. Was it a pain to take off? Looks a million times better without it

I have put new door pins and bushings in, drop shackles on the rear to make her sit a bit more level, and glass packs that stop at the back of the cab with a set of crome turndowns to get the sound that makes her mine

Here is a new update on the stepside, Put a tach on the column last week. I picked up a Grant steering wheel yesterday, and just finished relocating the after market gauges from under the ashtray to a more conveniant spot under the radio.

Madmatt Just a bit of advice. Your clear class fuel filter is not enough for a holley and a big safety hazard. I will let debris from your tank and lines get into the carb and holleys don't like that too much. They are also made of glass and can break and we all know gas and spark plugs don't make for a good combination. The main reason I say this is cause a very good friend of mine spent a lot of money on a Camaro he had and put one of those filters on it. He started out having issues with starvation and various other things but on his way home after a test run to see if the issue was fixed he hit a big pothole and the filter bounced off the intake and broke and poof up in flames the car went. All he could do was sit back and watch it burn due to lack of water and no fire extinguisher. I too had one of these along time ago and I had the same issues my buddy had except for the fire. Cleaned the carb went to a paper filer and never had a problem after that. A clear paper filter costs less and is alot better for your carb. But to each his own just thought I would add my .02 cents worth.

thanks for the heads up, I know someone else that had problems with that style filter as well do to the way they monted it. I feel safe with the way mine is mounted and have also checked the bounce for possible problems. I dont seem to have the starving problem iether this holley is made for stock app. and is set for a full pressure of 3 to 6 psi, my pump is pushing 9 and I have a holley regulator inline that I set to 6psi she seems to like it so far, the only problem that I do have is I cant adjust the float level, this carb has the non adjustable floats. I think the secondares need to be adjusted just a bit.

I have an update for the stepside hope yall like it, I was gathering parts to update the blazers front cap after the accident but for some odd reson I got a wild hair...... the fenders, hood bumper and cowl are from an 86 c-10 and the core support, grill, lights and bazels along with the wire harness for the lights are from a 90 burb. I had to do some cutting and drilling on the fire wall so the new hinges would work, I found a thread on the K5 Forum that helped me out alot. the rest of the swap is simple.........
