Post Project: "Patches"
Craig and I went to Iowa today to pick up my 1972 2wd Blazer. It's a project but lots of potential. It rained on us hard all day so no pics yet and not much checking the old girl out. One thing for sure is it is sitting on 8 lug wheels front and rear. Will have to do a little research to find out if it is factory on not. That is just the beginning. Stay tuned.......... :exit:

Yeppers, nice rig, lots of potential, I should have bought it.

It was 1050 miles round trip, 27 hours total -5 for sleeping.

It has some Crazy things done to it, Might have the "Rare"
Corvette option, or been violated a lot in the last 37 years.

Wheels are very cool looking and 17.5's up front and 16.5's
out back. As Ron discovered that night at home they are 8
lug which explains the weird looking rear end. Also it looks
to have a Hydralic steering stabilizer under it. The body is
Cherry for what I think is OEM Paint, cab floor gone, but a
new 1 piece unit like we got for Dawn's included & more !!!

:cogratulations:

Glad you two made it back safely. I can't wait to see what they have done on the wheels situation. May be a really "Rare" bird.

Post Re: Project: "Patches"
SPID reads H-78-15 as the tire size. So that means that I have a hodge podge built blazer. It left the factory as a 5 lug half ton. Somebody went to a lot of work to make this heavy duty for some reason. So if we check it out and it is done correctly we might leave it that way if the wheels that I bought from Bryan would fit and look right. Put a reciever hitch on it and I can pull the enclosed ond haul if needed. Just a thought......... :exit:

Post Re: Project: "Patches"
:flag: I have been going nuts with all the ways to go with this project. But after spending some time in the outdoor parts department, here's the plan. When I pull the 71 long bed that I'm using the engine and transmission for the black 78 short step in the shop it is going to be totally took apart. Then all the front suspension and 5 lug rear is going under the blazer. The front and rear 8 lug stuff will probably be for sale, along with a cool set of wheels and hub caps. Since I already have this engine and trans it will start out a 283 warmed up a touch and a turbo 350. It should do what I want it to as it is going to be a cruiser not a hot rod. I plan to hire someone that knows what he's doing when it comes to the body work as I want it right.Right now even with 1" square tubing welded in for support the PS door is pinched at the bottom and wont open. My plan is to have it ready for CTC next Oct. Anything earlier is just gravy. Now for some pictures. Stay tuned..... :exit:

Sounds like a plan, I would do everything listed (except the exterior)
and buff the OEM paint out for that clean stock original sleeper look.

This is to let you see what we have to work with. I have planned then replanned but think I have it down right. Stay tuned......... :exit:

wow i know it will take quite a lot of finacking to be able to weld the floors back in
maibe if you weld in a couple of new diagonal pipes in the existing bodywork with a piece of treaded rod and a nut at the end so you can lengthen and shorten it so you can push pull the body in the right shape before welding , it still will be hard to find places to measure from and make sure the body is square unless you have another blazer to measure the hole to hole /corner to corner sizes from
it will definetely take some thinking and a lot of time

:hi: Glad you like the look but I'm going to put it back to 5 lug 1/2 ton running gear. Next time we talk I'll give you my reasons. Right now Mark and I are taking apart the blue 71 that I bought a few weeks ago for the engine and trans. I have driven it and the drive train is good. So that will be put under the blazer. I won't lie today I hurt in places that I don't even remember having. But I am going to do all that I can to get back my life. I'm up for day two. :punk: :exit:

:flag: Don't worry bout the old man. I know my limitations and I let Mark handle the tough stuff. Yes I hurt again tonight. But I have a engine and trans sitting on a trailer that is about ready to put in the black 78. That's one out of the yard and my bus paid for. The front cross member and the rear end from this parts truck will end up under the blazer. The cab (which is in great shape) will end up on the 3/4 ton chassis that I have. I have to change 1 bedside on the old girl and it can be a better than average bed.

To end this before it becomes a book. I am happy. I feel better than I have in 4 years. I won't overdo it. :ron: :exit:
