I still think it needs a little smaller tire in front and the fenders back on it. JMO though. Congrats on it runnin under its own power.

the initial shock worn off and it starts to grow on me
its still not the way i wouldve done it making it intoo a stepside pickup with alloy 22 inch truckrims , then again it wouldve cost more money to get it that way
i am glad you didnt hack intoo the sheetmetal as it was realy nice

wat you could try is run the same grilleslits across the fender opening towarth the door , be hard to get the curvarure right though

I think (crossed fingers) that I will get to the show. Do you know if they would allow my Kubota in the show area? My scooter don't do good on rough terrain. this is one of the few times that I wish that I had a golf cart.

I do not know. It is at the race track this year, all paved and concrete. Would the scooter be sufficient there? If not I can try to find out.

If it's all paved then the scooter will be fine. Thanks.

I was so busy (and tired) that I forgot to take pics. I was able to gather these from friends.

Some of these are from the side of the interstate. A blow out on the front left of a Chevelle with 40 miles on a new set of BFG's and rocket wheels set us back a bit.

She was definetly a "stand out in the crowd". Lot's of compliments made me feel better. I wasn't sure how it would go over.

think you need to contact the tirecenter for that blown tire , you might be able to claim they broke the cordlayers when they rolled it on the rim (since its such a new tire)
it might've hit sumtin with the side of the tire or let you let it run low on airpressure aspecially on long drives thats the death of tires

the zoomy pipes are a nice touch maibe get some thicker pipes or megaphones http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs33/i/2008/ ... emigod.jpg
putting semitruck style flappers on each pipe might give a nice castanettes (ariba) effect too and will keep the rainwater out of the engine

The truck is on jack stands and the front axle is stripped down to just the beam.

Brake parts are here.
Kingpin rebuild kit is here.

This is how much force it took to get the kingpins out of the axle (with the blue tip wrench as an assistant).

Image

I will keep piddlin' on it as time and temperature permits and roll it out this spring ready to ride.

used to work at a place that rebuild citybusses . engine transmission brakes and backaxle (basicly all the underpinnings) there was one guy who did the frontaxles he had the beam axle in a stand about hipheight and could slam those kingpins out on one blow he usually did the two in one move using the downswing away from the first to swing it over to the other kingpin

i tried it once and i almost took my knee out whith the sledhammer

I almost did a wedge bed but wanted to keep in more original than that would have needed to be. To truly use it as a tow rig it would have been just the opposite of this build, using only the sheetmetal on a different chassis.

think if you make the bed long enough after the backwheels and use airbags in the back you dont even need ramps to drive on the wedge , might make the 4 inches on the verry rear fold up to expose the rearlights and numberplate but thats about it

Either that or just section the center section and make it flat for the hitch and license plate and have stepside lights on the side of the ramp.

i have driven a carhauler and having anything sticking outside the bed (like those rubber running lights ) where bound to get hooked behind sumtin when backing up or out of small spaces or fields when picking up left carhulks and trailerhomes for their metals
having the rearlights inside some strong u profile beam saves a lot of replacing lighting in the back the beam more eazily cracks the pole it drives intoo than have the pole crack the plastic light

It only took a couple of weeks to figure out the correct tie rod ends, find them, and get them here. . .

Work will resume next week.

When I get the "whoa" part fixed I can test out the "go" part. I haven't had it over an idle yet. That was challenging enough with 6.??:1 gears.

Oh man, I had to scrap a weeks worth of work on the steering and start over from scratch. I think I got it nailed with the new concept and ordered the parts/tools today. That should be behind me unless the angle caused by having used all the original parts combined with the lowered stance results in too much bump steer.

Here she sits waiting.

maibe you could make sumting simulair as they do on those lifted 4x4's but in reverse (long crossing link from left to right but mounted upside down so it sits level )

Man o man! You don't even wanna know how expensive front wheel bearings are! I knocked them out thinking "I'll just get some new ones before I put it back together. Thankfully the inners look good and 1 set of outers has been replaced, so I really only have to buy 1 set of outers. Otherwise it would cost more than I paid for the truck! I'll leave it at that.

I only lack one tapped hole, a 3/4-16 LH, and the steering will be done!

sumtimes you can crossreference the bearings sizes to another brand of bearings (the type numbers usually are branded intoo the edge of the bearing) and get them from some suplier that sells them for use in machines or trailers they can turn out to be a lot cheaper than getting them from the dealer
seen a crossrefference sheet a mile long once for all the bearings used in a 14 bolt gm rearaxle the price difference can be staggering

Front wheels are back on. Brake pedal, booster and master cylinder are on the way. Floor boards are out again. Maybe this won't be too bad.

Hoping to have operational front brakes for the Full Throttle car show June 7.

Fired right up after sitting for months!

Moved out of the work bay and onto the lift for expedited progress. I'm telling you it is a totally different look outside!

Tranny shifter linkage adjusted, transmission filter and pan gasket replaced, and brakes underway.

OMG!

8 hours to tear down the rear axle from rolling to bare spindles...and of course it needs bearings and seals...of which are over 4" in diameter.

At one point I wasn't sure the drum was actually going to come off.

Hopefully this is the last big ticket item on the to do list.

...and the story goes on. The bearings were frozen in the rear wheel hubs so bad that I had to heat the hub with the torch while it was in the press under alot of pressure! Talk about not wanting to be close to that. Ended up busting the race when it finally let go.

Rear drums have been turned and the hubs are ready for assembly.

Gotta clean up all the other parts, rebuild the wheel cylinders, and straighten everything that was bent pulling the rear drums.

The brake system fabrication and installation will be complete very soon.

I just hope it works!

If not just make sure there is a tree or two in your path. Preferably big enough to stop that monster. Lol

Oh it is the little things...like having to wait days for a single fitting.
