Finished the break-in on the cam and changed the oil. I strained the oil with a paint strainer to check for any dirt, metal etc and it came out real clean. Went with the 2- quart NAPA gold oil filter. Since it is a solid cam, I went ahead and used 30 wt non-detergent oil and added some break-in additive to keep the zinc up. Will change it again at about 500 miles. After the motor got warm, we noticed some water leaking... It ended up being the brand new heater core was defective- I bypassed it and then I pulled it yesterday. It is still under warranty- but a pain to pull. I am going to keep the 600 Holley- it is my buddies so I will just have to replace it sometime. Real happy with the way the motor sounds- you can just barely hear the cam, but you can feel it some as you lean on the fender. Have to finish up my exhaust- still haven't decided about mufflers and also finish hooking up the trans linkage and driveshaft. Going to use some of the leftover braided line to make a fuel line. I also dropped my pretty chrome alternator off to get rebuilt.

Dwayne, thanks for calling me and letting me hear the engine. There is nothing like getting to fire one for the first time. Looking at the pics, the rear of the tranny may be a little low, possiblely about two inches, could cause some drive line vibes.

You are probably right- right now the front end is up quite a bit on stands. I will make my final adjustments after I get it on the ground.

Since I had the front end up and the tires off, I thought I would go ahead and rebuild the front brakes. New shoes, flex hoses, spring kit, wheel cylinders, turned drums etc. Pulled the backing plates and cleaned and repainted those. Went to put everything back together last nite. I was going to pull out the bleeders on the new wheel cylinders to make them easier to go back in. 3/8 is the wrench size of the bleeder and I noticed that a 3/8 wrench wouldn't fit, but a metric would ???? So when I went to loosen them - no go...no budge... On both of them. The only thing that I can figure out is that when the little china man went to put the bleeders in that he put the wrong bleeders in and then just ran them in with his air wrench. :banghead: I will return those today. :crying: I am glad that I didn't have everything buttoned up or I would really be upset.

Went to Advance- they not only made it right, but price matched from Rockauto.com on the parts.

Sweet! I hasn't been all that long ago parts stores wouldn't even consider price matching the internet. I guess they started loosing too much business.

They have done that on a couple of things for me- I saved about $80+ on the radiator for my truck and about $50 or so on the radiator for Nancy's KIA. They just need some type of documentation.
Also the guys at the Advance store in Newport are actually pretty knowledgable. The manager is pretty young but so far has really surprised me so far with what he knows about older stuff.

The store in Dandridge however isn't worth a flip.

Ran it about a mile up the road and back this afternoon. A couple of minor bugs, but overall am pretty happy and excited about it.

No chains req'd. When I switched carbs I went from manual to electric choke. Haven't hooked up my electric choke yet and it wanted to close and load up.
I didn't think I was ever going to get enough tranny fluid in it. We had put some in the converter, but with the auxillary cooler, new lines and such- it took alot.
Alignment shop and muffler shop is next. It was a little loud with just the straight pipes dumping out of the manifolds.

Gonna do some updates to the thread- been working on the hood and trying to put the $$ together for exhaust system and alignment. Running pretty good with just some fine tuning of carb needed.

Painted the hood over the weekend. We watersanded w/1500 one of the side cowls and buffed it to be able to match the paint as best as possible.

Just not enough time. No updated pics right now, but I did pick up an aluminum grill for it and have ran it up and down the road a couple of times.
