Finally brought my project home from my dad's. It's been stored there for 2 years. Now I'll finally be able to work on it. Trai (tdave00) helped out by going with me and getting it hooked up as did Bryan (5150) by lending me his towbar. The help is much appreciated. Got some time to tinker today. Messed with the engine a little more still can't get it running right. Also, how do you get the wiper arms off? I'm having no luck at it.

So, before you think I got nothing done, I did get a little bit done. I removed the sheet of about 3/8 inch aluminum sheet that someone had glued down with silicone or something. I've got the bed bolts out and ready to lift the bed off. Just need couple of buddies to stop by and help lift it off .










I also got the hood off and the front bumper off. That's about it.

Oh, I also figured out one thing. I have GOT to put up some better lighting in my garage.

I don't have any plans for it. I also don't have any idea what it is worth. Tell him that if he'll come get my engine running good I'll give him a sweet deal on it :)

Ok, so Trae came over and spent some time with my engine. It runs A LOT better. I'm really appreciative for all he did. I do still have some issues to address. It still looks like I've got an issue on my #7 cylinder. I think we (really he) narrowed it down to a bad lifter or maybe a bad valve seal. I've now got to make some decisions about what to put into this motor. I'm really not fond of the 305, but it's what I've got. If I had the money and the time I'd build something else.

I'm not getting much response on this. Anyone have any input.

Replied. I would try to fix it, but I would have to see it in person first before making a final judgment.

Finally got the rearend out from under my truck.





And the big ole breaker bar I'm using to get this stuff loose.






The more I look at this frame, the more I want to use the other one I have. Once I got to where I could see the underside of my trailing arms I realized they have serious rust issues, too. They have scale rust building up in between the the two pieces of each arm. I can't even get the u-bolts out with the nuts off.

I've said this alot the past few days. If I ever buy another truck to build, I'm going to find one out in Arizona or New Mexico and ship it in.

Moving along great looks like you got most the hard part done.

Sometimes I feel like I'm making negative progress. The more I do the farther in the hole I feel. Anyway, I started the task today of removing the crossmember over the rear axle so I can decide once and for all whether to fix this frame or convert the other one I have to coil springs. Either way I have to remove that crossmember. I hacked away at 14 frame rivets during that time. This pile is just what fell out while I was using the air hammer.



This should be part of my frame. Thanks to rust it's just a pile on the floor now. This is just making me want to use the other frame more and more.

I also picked up a blazer tank conversion kit for a good price locally.



And I got my trailing arms painted.



They need a little touch up and one more coat of paint in a few spots. I'll get that when I go to paint the frame, whichever one I use.

Both sides are like that. It's got to be fixed or scrapped. It's apparently doing the same thing in between the vertical parts of those two pieces as well. The metal is getting pretty thin there.

Ok, after another hour of beating, wacking, grinding, cutting, and every other thing imaginable to my frame, I am so done with this. This frame is on my last nerve. I spent all day last Friday trying to see if it is salvagable and I've decided that short of back halfing it or a lot of metal work that I don't have the skills to do, it's not. So, I've got to figure out how to swap a truck which has no rear end underneath it with a frame with no front crossmember under it. Too bad I don't have room in my garage for both so I could just swap stuff over. I doubt the neighborhood would look to highly on my having half a truck sitting in my front yard either.

Well, I feel like I've been moving at a turtle's pace with my project. Between having a baby and being gone a lot on the weekends I haven't gotten much done over the past month and a half. I'm trying not to lose momentum.

So, I'm planning to hit it really hard next weekend. I'm going to try and find an engine hoist to borrow. I'm going to pull the motor and trans, lift my cab off the frame, get my air compressor anchored (ok, not exactly truck related, but it directly affects it), remove the trailing arm brackets from the frame I'm not going to use, and get the frame I am going to use from my dad's house.

Yes, it's alot to do in a weekend, so anyone that wants to come over and pitch in is welcome. Here's an update even if it is only for my own benefit.

Picked up a hoist from a friend this morning. My buddy Keith is coming over this afternoon and we're gonna yank that 305 out.

Got the motor and trans out. Got the rest of the truck that I'm not using on the trailer to take to my dad's tomorrow. Going to pick up my other frame while I'm there. Was going to take some pictures but it's been a really long day. Gonna crash now.

Took the bad frame and cab I'm not using to my dad's yesterday. Picked up this frame. It needs some work as well, but hopefully it will be better in the long run. Now I have to really get to work.

At least you are making progress. From what I could see in the pics, the new frame is a lot better.

Yeah, everything about this frame seems better except that it's currently a leaf spring frame. The notch needs to be reworked some. I think I'll have it boxed right around the notch and then fab some kind of crossmember right there.
