 New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Well, I found this on Craigslist Wednesday and got the title for it today. Didn't need another project but couldn't pass it up. Going to get it together, painted, and go to some shows/cruise-ins. Then see if I get any good interest to sell it. Here's the info on it...
Colorado rust free truck (had a couple small spots but they have been fixed with metal already). 71 4x4 blazer that is basically ready for paint and carpet/interior to be done. Has a NEW 2" lift with dual shocks, stabilizer, brand new 33" BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's on 6 lug rally wheels. Rebuilt (at a good local shop w/receipts) 350 painted and chromed out with RV cam, 30 over with edelbrock intake and 600cfm carb w/ elec. choke. Rebuilt TH350 with shift kit, new factory stall torque converter, and SS lines Transfer case has new seals Differentials with new seals Gas tank cleaned out, sealed, and re-painted New fuel lines New battery good battery tray New wiring harness New brake lines/master/booster/rebuilt brakes New heater core and blower motor New light lenses Complete dual exhaust with coated headers, exhaust pipe, magnaflow mufflers, and nice tips out the back. Body is excellent for the year with a few patches that will need some body work but nothing major. Rockers were replaced and were done well. Rocker boxes are original and look almost new. He opened them up and POR15'd the insides. Frame was blasted and sprayed with POR15. New passenger Door (truck cut down) fits well Original driver's door in great shape no rust Has original passenger door which I would sell in decent shape with dents not rust Pass fender is original and perfect Driver's is good aftermarket and fits well Has three aftermarket fenders (extras) to sell Has new inner fenders Has FOUR sets of buckets. Original utilities-decent shape with backs Two other bucket sets need redone- one 71 and one 73 model with a cupholder console And one CHERRY set of 71-72 buckets with all hardware, tracks, tilt forward passenger seat, NEW FOAM, NEW covers, and a nice console with a couple small cracks (HOW MUCH ARE THESE WORTH BY THEMSELVES?- only thing missing is the backs) NICE Double wall top freshly painted white with a very nice hatch and hinges and a new chrome latch. NO CRACKS Firewall and inner fenders/dash painted factory blue color. Inside floor and undercarriage were undercoated with spray in bedliner New inner fenders already painted black Cherry rad support painted black New aftermarket gate (better quality- thick steel) Chrome vent windows with very good chrome and good, soft seals Nice or Great original grille shell, inner, and bowtie emblem A ton of gaskets, all the hardware for the hatch and to mount the top spare tire holder in new shape complete set of new lights Leveling mats for the rear the chrome carpet mounting strips And he has some of the paint he's used so far so I can match it up and have some for the small parts
He replaced the foot vent seals and blasted and POR15'd inside New Heater controls (chrome nice looking) New glovebox insert, light New firewall insulation and cardboard installed New ductwork for heater and heater box detailed painted black New white faced gauges with new bezel White faced tach (sunpro) mounted on the steering column Painted around windshield frame, seam sealed, and put new windshield with rubber seal (already 100% finished and looks great!) Engine bay is already done. Painted rad support, inner part of fenders, inner fenders ready to bolt on, engine running and nicely detailed out, all wiring ran, underside of hood painted and new hinges/springs, and latches installed, firewall painted ,and rest of truck jammed out for paint!!! Like I said, basically needs final body work, a couple metal patches a the bottom of the bedsides(to do a little better job instead of bondo over them) paint the exterior, and then the interior put together and rubber seals.

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Did you see the thread on the other board.....pockets aren't as deep as you might think ;) I got a great deal...judging by the receipts He put around 10K into it w/out the original cost of the truck from Colorado which was in GREAT shape.

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Thanks guys....can I get your opinions? Trying to decide what color interior to do....I am going to keep the color on the firewall/windshield/dash as it is the original color and it's done \ Planning on black paint or scroll pattern door panels and the glovebox will be chrome with a black center to match the gauge bezel. Thinking of a few options for the interior: Blue carpet with black seats Black carpet with blue seats Blue carpet with blue seats Black carpet with black seats I'm having a hard time deciding. I am torn personally but want to do something that will be good for re-sale when I do decide I'm done playing with it and sell it... Any suggestions with reasoning? Also, trying to decide whether to paint inside the rear of the truck or use panels on the sides. Panels would cost around 550-600 shipped or I could make my own ala 5150's blazer style. Trying to decide whether the cost and time are worth it either way since the ultimate plan is to sell it and the next person may like a different color interior and rip it out. That's why I want to set it up to appeal to the widest range of potential buyers. Thanks!

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
My opinion would be blue carpet w/blue seats. It may seem like alot of blue, but I think you will have enough of other colors to break it up and be able to contrast. I personally don't like black seats due to being too hot. My $.02.

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
That was supposed to be one of the options but I wrote black with black twice...corrected. I do appreciate the thought on the black especially since a lot of people would like to drive this with the top off....

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
I agree with DP, black is just to hot esp if you ever ride topless.

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
I vote blue seats but black floor. I have the red marine vinyl, and of course the line-x'd floor. But I've never been scorching hot. That's saying something since I'm horizontally challenged. The Line-X will at least give you a clean look and will last forever. Also if you are out in the rain, by accident, it won't ruin a $500-$600 carpet kit. I'd be willing to bet you could get the whole floor/bed sides done for around $600-$800. You'll have almost $1200 in just carpet and panels.

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Thanks guys....I think I've come up with an idea based off a truck. Craig will remember this one...it was involved in a messy divorce..... Going to get a color sample of the houndstooth seat covers...think that would be a good mix of blue and black without being too much of either and it's a really nice custom look to me. Most of the show trucks I've seen have two tones in them now also. Going to check out the covers and also check with a couple local shops to see how much they would charge to recover if they make their own covers....and the advantage to that would be I could get custom door and rear side panels made to match.....

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Jason at Pop's Chop Shop started on the little bit of metal work left...tackled the worst area first....the offending area.... The backside....see how the PO drilled holes to pull a dent out.... And the new sheetmetal formed and welded in :metal:

It is cramped in the garage, but I took some overall pictures with the top on as it sits now...

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Body lines look pretty good.... I went ahead and took the smooth gate off. Jason's going to use another bumper I have to patch the bad spots on the factory gate. The smooth gate will be the one we use with the custom panel for my next build... Here's the smooth gate with the hitch...can also see the exhaust and painted gas tank and the gate is gone... you can see the spare rim and the factory bench/inner fenders

Re: New Project: 4wd 71 Blazer
Oh, and you can see the side glass that the PO accidentally broke when he was delivering it to me...but I already got a new piece to replace it... Some more pics.... Utility buckets that will be re-covered to match the rear bench Inside windshield area Hitch and gas tank wiring All new fuel lines Love those clean rocker boxes...POR15'd inside and out then undercoated and new bolts put on. I liked this shot of the engine through the wheel well MSD wires/coated headers Starter all wrapped up. Getting dusty under here from the body work....
