Trans will work fine. You may need to get an ECM out of a v8 truck or at least the chip so that the v8 gets the fuel it needs. Im not sure if the serp will bolt up or not never tried it. I would think the best thing to do would be get a complete engine with every thing on it to make life easy unless you just got a great deal on a long block.

Pretty sure the serpentine will bolt right up. Read on the big board you can take one from a 4.3 and it will work on a SBC.

What kind of transmission does it have in it?

It has a 5 speed Trai. I have a set of bran new vortec heads.Thats would be the olny reason for getting a short block.

it will bolt up and if you aint building a killer motor it should hold up decently. yes the serp system will work.
and you will need to put a chipinit at the least the preferable way would be to go to a junk yard and find a comp from a 350 truck and use it

Is it an NP 3500 or 4500? I've heard 3500s (what typically came with the 4.3) won't hold up to a V-8 very well, but 4500s do fine.

If you're talking about the NV3500 vs. NV4500, the 3500 is one piece with the bellhousing. The 4500 has a seperate bellhousing. The '92 4500 has a really low 1st gear and reverse. Something like 6.42. I don't remember exactly. The '93 up were a little higher. 5.??

You can find out more about the 4500 at www.NV4500.com.

Both require using a hydralic clutch set up.

he probly has an NV3500 the nv4500 only came in the 1ton and 3/4 ton trucks unless you ordered it with a 4500. there were some 4.3 trucks with them when ordered with the 4.10 posi dif in it but you dont see many on those. most trucks had the 3500s in them.
Here is a pic of my long shaft nv4500 with trans E-brake.

A friend of mine had a 1991 or so truck that was a factory 350 with a 3500. I bought the truck from him with 270,000 or so and it never gave a minutes trouble no grinding or popping out of gear either. I will say it was all stock and was used to pull a trailer most weekend during race season. That truck run strong empty or with a trailer behind it. I am not sure what you will be doing with it but if you not snatching gears all the time and with a light short bed truck you should be good.
